Frequently Asked Questions

1. I've never done therapy before, what should I expect?

It's normal to feel nervous! In our first session, we'll talk about what brought you here, your goals, and how I can help. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with. Therapy is simply a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings with professional guidance. We'll discuss what's been challenging for you, I'll explain my approach, and you can ask any questions. The first session is really about getting to know each other and seeing if we're a good fit.

2. How do online sessions work?

We meet via secure video platform at your scheduled time. You'll need a private space, stable internet connection, and a device with camera and microphone. I'll send you the session link beforehand. Online therapy offers flexibility and privacy, and is just as effective as in-person sessions for most people.

3. How often do we meet and for how long?

Sessions are typically 60 minutes long. Most clients start with weekly sessions, though we can adjust frequency based on your needs and progress. We'll regularly check in about your progress and adjust as needed.

4. Is everything we discuss confidential?

Yes, everything shared in our sessions is strictly confidential, with very limited legal exceptions (such as immediate risk of harm). Your privacy and trust are paramount. I don't discuss your case with anyone without your permission, and your therapy records are stored securely.

5. What are your rates?

I provide services based on financial needs to ensure therapy is accessible. Please contact me directly to discuss pricing options that work for your situation. Session fees are discussed during our initial free 30-minute consultation, and I offer flexible pricing based on income for students or those with limited budgets.

6. Do you accept German public insurance?

I currently only accept private payment. However, I offer flexible pricing based on financial needs to make therapy accessible. Please contact me to discuss options that work for your situation. Some private health insurance policies may reimburse psychological counseling services - I recommend checking with your provider directly and provide invoices for potential reimbursement.

7. What languages do you offer sessions in?

Sessions are available in English and Portuguese. You can speak whichever language feels most comfortable for expressing yourself, or mix both if that works better. Many bilingual clients find themselves switching languages depending on the topic or emotion they're discussing, and that's completely fine.

8. Where are you located?

I offer in-person sessions at coworking therapy spaces in Neukölln and Mitte, Berlin, both easily accessible by public transport. I also offer online sessions if you prefer not to travel or live outside these areas. You can choose what works best for you, or even mix both depending on your schedule.

9. What's the difference between a psychologist and a psychotherapist in Germany?

As a psychological counselor in Berlin, I provide CBT-based therapy and psychological support on a private-pay basis. I can help with anxiety, depression, burnout, life transitions, and personal growth. However, I cannot diagnose mental health disorders, prescribe medication, or provide services covered by German public health insurance - those require a licensed psychotherapist or psychiatrist. If you need formal diagnosis or medication, I can refer you to appropriate specialists.
